Girl's 6th in Division 1 Race; Boy's 12th in Championship Race at Clovis!

Clovis Invitational Recap

Girl’s Frosh-Soph 3rd: Led by Emily Taylor’s 12th place finish, the girls piled five runners in the top 35 and 7 in the top 50! The performance was good for 3rd place behind Canyon (Anaheim) and defending state champs Dana Hills! The girls averaged 20:28 for 5k which was a mere 25 seconds behind the Varsity average. This again shows the depth of the Lady Vikings! The spread between the 1-5 runners was also under a 1:00 showing the packing strategy that has worked so well for the girls!

Frosh-Soph Boys: Running with only two vikings in the race, Sean Hillenbrand and Rico Perales blazed out to the front of the race as the gun went off before settling in. Sean completed the 5k course in 17:29 which earned athlete of the meet honors while Rico came in right behind him in 17:36! Sean has been the epitome of consistency having progressed all year in his first full cross country season. The experience will be valuable in the future when both move on to varsity and plan to run in a State Championship race once day!

D1 Boy’s Race: Also racing with not enough runners to score as a team, the four boys came together for a strong performance in another deep field. Jake Shota led with a 17:55 showing while Jacob Aube (18:08), Dustin Horney (18:16), and Tyrone Hardy (18:45) capped of the Vikings race. All four runners will look to combine with the rest of the team and prepare for the J.V. County Championships! The three mile course will be setup for all runners to break 17:00 once again!

D1 Varsity Girls 6th: The girls continued to progress as some of their key varsity scorers ran in the frosh-soph division. The performance has the girls knocking on the door for a C.I.F. ranking which would allow them to qualify in the competitive Sunset League. All five scorers placed in the top 55 to total 220 points. Chelsea Clifford was named athlete of the meet for her 20:23 effort and 5th scorer for the team! With everyone healthy and racing together, the girls have much more to accomplish in the next few weeks!

Boy’s Championship 12th: The boys came together as a full team for the first time since the Woodbridge Invitational to shake some rust off. Karl Baranov ran to one of the best times ever on the state meet course for a Marina runner with a 15:34 showing! The performance placed him around numerous sub 9:20 3200 meter runners from the previous track season! Karl Wenberg also made his return having not raced since the Woodbridge Invitational to run a solid 16:43. Now that the boys are all back together, they will turn to the Orange County Championships where they will battle for the County Championship!
