The boy's remarkable season came to an end at the C.I.F. Finals held at Mt. Sac College. The team finished 11th with 250 points which was 61 points behind the 7th place team, El Toro, who finished with 189 points. Karl Baranov led all Viking runners with his 15:22 performance which was also 1 second out of qualifying as an individual to the state meet. Baranov was followed by freshman Richie Soto (15:41, 34th), Ryan Shota (16:14, 73rd), Karl Wenberg (16:16, 75th), Jason VanHamersveld (16:26, 86th), Robert Oliver (16:46, 103rd), and Sven Sianez (17:34, 118th). The 2010 season looks extremely bright for the Vikings who return 6/7 of their top runners.
Here is a look back at just a few of the teams amazing accomplishments in the 2009 season:
-Team time school record at the Woodbridge Invitational (76:14)
-Sunset League Champions for the first time since 2004.
-5 runners in the top 10 at Sunset League Finals and a winning point total of 31 which is the lowest in over a decade for a league champion team. Also no team has put 5 runners in the top 10 in over a decade on the boy's side.
-Fastest team time at the Central Park course in school history (78:58).
-Fastest team time ever at the Mt. Sac Course (79:01).
-Ranked in every C.I.F. poll throughout the season.
-Ranked twice in the top 10 STATE poll (10th one week and 9th the week before CIF Finals).
-Won 4 races as a team (Woodbridge, Sunset League Preview and Finals, and Mt. Sac Invitational D1 race).
The boy's returning team of 78:47 on the Mt. Sac course will rank among the top 4 in C.I.F. and up their in the State poll as well. For now the team will turn to off season track training and come back stronger than ever for the 2010 season!
Practice will be held @ Marine View Middle School on Tuesday, August 31st at 3pm. On Wednesday, September 1st (first day of school) we will meet at 2:30pm by the bike racks. Please do not forget your stuff! Also, in order for you to practice, you MUST have a physical completed and the co-curricular form turned into Dave. On Friday, September 3rd, you can go to the activities office and pay the Transportation fee. They will then stamp your co-curricular form and you will give the white copy back to Dave. Once that is done, you will be fully cleared to practice and race during the season.
